Scheduling your child.

Is my child ready for a stroke session?

Some indicators are ... your child:

  • gets around the pool easily and takes breaths
  • has been or will be on a swim team
  • began learning freestyle last summer
  • was recommended to take stroke by our instructor
  • can sit and listen for a one-hour class
  • is six years old (or five and has all the other indicators).

Can we do stroke lessons on other dates besides the stroke weeks offered?

Yes, absolutely. Your child can be matched with other stroke students any time in the spring/summer. However, your group would usually need to follow the 10, half-hour class format.

Can I schedule more than one learn-to-swim session for my child?

No. Except in special situations, we do not teach repeat learn-to-swim lessons. Regular practice after your session will be equally effective in maintaining your child’s confidence and continuing to develop his/her skills.

What if my child is almost 3 this summer, but not quite?

It is best to wait until after your child’s 3rd birthday. We will recommend waiting until the following spring or summer as learning and retention will be better at that time.

Planning a group.

What if I want to host, but don’t have enough swimmers for a group?

We will happily fill in openings for you. We always have a waitlist of people who don’t have access to a pool.

What if our group has more than four swimmers, or children of different ages/ability?

We will not take more than four swimmers in the water at the same time. If the schedule allows, an additional class can be added for the extra children. If there are very different levels, having two separate groups works well. Each child will be working on their own individual skills, so they don’t have to match perfectly, but try to avoid putting beginners with swimmers working on advanced skills.

Do I need to have my whole group arranged before I register?

No, but you must indicate how much time you wish to reserve. Groups must be filled (all participants registered and paid) at least one month prior to the start date of the session, or we will fill any openings for you.

What if?

What if I need to cancel?

Once you have agreed to a date/time, the deposit is non-refundable. However, if we are given notice at least 1 month prior to the start of your lesson and your spot can be filled in, your deposit will be credited to you for a later session if available.

What if my child gets sick?

Depending on when this occurs and the expected recovery time, your session may need to be
re-scheduled. Lessons missed due to illness may be made up only if there is an opportunity in the following session.

What if we miss a lesson?

Every lesson builds upon the progress of the previous lesson. To maximize your child’s progress, make every effort to attend all classes.

What if we want to schedule a make-up lesson?

Make-up opportunities are rare and therefore reserved for children who have missed classes due to illness. Therefore, no make-ups are offered for any other reason.

Part of the unusual success of this teaching approach is the sequence and timing of the lessons. Some lessons may be shorter or longer than others, but each lesson is built upon the prior lesson(s). Therefore, make every effort to attend all lessons. Continuity is the key to success... more than cumulative time spent. For this reason make-up lessons are not always useful, especially when there is a time gap from the original session.

In cases of illness or emergency (not voluntary absences), make-up lessons may be scheduled, subject to availability and the discretion of the instructor. Our primary concern is that your child develops good swimming skills during their session, and we will do our best to make that happen.

Please understand that once a session has begun there is no opportunity for us to fill the spot and therefore we cannot offer a refund.
